Default Loss of power - any ideas?

My house mate just bought an S. 3 years old with 25k miles. Three times now, on long trips up the motorway doing about 80 in 6th there has been a sudden power loss and the car drops down to about 40 mph. If she goes down the gears and picks up the revs again it usually moves on again. Though the first time she was stranded for 10 mins until the engine would start again.

Only other thing to add is problems with the alarm... but a new battery has been fitted and still the problems occur. It has been to Honda twice... dianostics show nothing. An engineer has had it over night and not reproduced the problem....

Any ideas????

Honda now say all they can do is start replacing engine parts at her cost!!!!

Dodgy wiring loom? A few people have had corrosion in the loom. Does it just lose power or does it cut out / warning lights etc?

Could be a lot of things like most problems Most likely bets would be a common electrical fault (loom / earth / alternator / immobiliser etc) or could be something like the MAP sesnor.

Get it checked for fault codes and see if the ECU has stored anything. Always helps to diagnose a prob.

EDIT - your dealer has checked the fault codes. Bugger.

yep - not as bad as this though. power drops out for a few milliseconds here, a few milliseconds there - not enough to reduce the speed more than a couple of mph.

There are some good ideas on here... I actually remember having a much more minor prob with revs myself. I took the MAP sensor thingy off, hit it lightly with a screw driver and re-fitted... problem solved. may have to get my screw driver out tonight...

My house mate is lush... and she owns a Fireblade steveM......
