Longtime, No Hear... Brakepads
Hello to you all,
It's been a while since I last spoke. To be honest its taken me quite a while to remember my Account name.
How have things been? Any more Scottish members been drawn to the joys of S2000?
Well, I'll cut to the chase. My MY'00 needs some new Front Brake Pads. So I'm know left pondering over whether to stick with Genuine Honda Parts (for the sake of my Extended Warranty) or go with some 'after market' alternatives.
My issue here is not really braking performance, but more to do with the brake dust issue. I'm on my THIRD set of wheels (all thankfully replaced courtesy of Honda if a little reluctantly) and I'm guessing that my current wheels might need replacing in the final year of my extended warranty.
So do I cloud the issue (in a puff of brake dust

I am using Porterfield R4S at the moment, i find them much better in hard braking, although I do have this annoying clicking, which the dealer hasnt been able to cure. However i know others who have used them without these problems.
Wash your wheels regularly! And if you wax them, the dust is much easier to wash off - often just a jetwash will remove it.
LONG time no see BTW Stiv - how could you forget a username like that?

Stiv! Welcome back - we thought we'd offended you in some way since you've not been posting for so long
Re meets - since you left we've been having meets of some kind almost every other weekend (that doesn't sound good ). There may be one this weekend of some description.
Pads - I had mine done recently by Chatham Honda, but I can't remember how much it was. I did consider doing them myself, but didn't want to risk my ham-fisted mechanic "skills" on the bits of my car regularly used to stopping me from 100 kph.
Hope to catch up with you soon

Always done my own, because frankly I wouldn't trust an apprentoid fitting something as important as that. Anyway, it's pretty easy to do and someone with only average skill should be able to get it done.
I replaced my pads with Carbotech Panther Plus - they're fantastic pads no doubt with awsome stopping ability and very practical in that they work from cold. However they squealed like hell making my car sound like a Lodon taxi and the dust was ridiculous. They get fitted on the rare occasions I take the car to the track.
For my sanity, I went back to OEMs - cost about Pds 140 for a complete seat as I recall and they really are quite decent. I don't know why you should get that much dust - I do a lot of FAST road driving and the dust isn't much of a problem at all?
