Default London to Amsterdam race...Top Gear style!

Been talking this over with a couple of mates for a while.

Its basically me to drive to amsterdam in the S and a couple mates use public transport.
They are adamant that they'll be there much before me as a plane journey is 45 mins long. they dont however take into account walking to a bus stop and or train station to get to the airport, then the two hours check in time.

After that theres all the waiting before the plane takes off and after, passport control, luggage (if you have any) then public transport into Amsterdam.

I've been told that you can drive there door to door in about 5-6 hours. Anyone ever done this? I did it by coach years ago in college and that took 11 hours. I've also done it by plane but dont know how long it took start to finish.

I reckon it will be close and would like feedback, because if it is at all doable i'd maybe get sponsored and give to charity.

Anyone have any ideas? Or shall i go back to my mates and tell them they were right?

feedback please guys.

Stel

You will lose, big time.

I have done both journeys so many times now ( I originate from Holland )

I have done the plane journey last night, and leaving work on ox. circus at 6pm, I arrived at 11pm GMT.

By car it'll take me about 2h to get to Dover (from where I live) ferry will take you about 2 hours, then it'll be at least another 4 hours until you are in Amsterdam, forgetting the traffic at Antwerp which you will most definitely have.

You'll be pushing it very hard to make it under 7h.

I still prefer the car journey though as I hate flying and all the airport crap you get with it, but it's definitely not quicker.

Depends on your starting point.

Take the train not the ferry
