Lighter wheels should help to improve the lumpy damping.

Comparisons are impossible, since nearly eveyone changes the diameter, requiring a (harsher) lower profile tyre of a different design. Since the width in increased, returning some weight and the offset is nearly always wrong, any comparison is probably meaningless.

Unless, of course, you can pursuade two people running identical tyres, one with heavy bling rims and one with lightweights, to run back to back, swap wheels etc.

I'm not normally a fan of aftermarket wheels but I must admit they look (on Lou's car anyway, not that yellow monstrosity with the ironing board on the back)

I've not tested a perfect comparison or using the S2000 but I've driven 2 UK 350Z's, one with the standard rims and one with the Ray's forged alloys (1kg lighter per wheel), everything else the same. It's not a scientific comparison, but the the Ray's equipped Z felt nimble, more eager to turn in and not quite as heavy. I didn't feel any difference in speed through the corner, but it certainly felt better settling into the corner. I did about 30 miles in both down the same route.

Basically I had decided that it was a worthwhile option if I'd gone the 350Z route. But in the end it just didn't feel as nimble as the S2000 which is why I went that way.

Just my 2p.

There!

That's what I'd expect it to feel like. Nice description!

Mind you, are the widths & offset the same on both 350 Z wheels?

(Rhetorical question, I really do not expect Chilled to know off the top of his head!)

Umm, off the top of my head I know the road contact (ie tyre size) is the same, but there was a slight difference in dimensions of rim. If I get bored tonight I'll look it up. But I suspect it'll be tomorrow. When I put the deposit down on the S I chucked all my 350Z literature away.
At the end of the day, unsprung weight is the true enemy to happy ing

It's just that on my 2nd MX-5, the alloys were 1/2" wider.

I dunno if it was the lack of PAS or more torque, but breakaway was transmitted much clearer and was easier to control. The whole car felt much more driveable, just as you describe with the 350.

The Jordan Civics are also just a little sharper than the VTis for the same reason.

all that yellow paint must add tons of speed to it then.

I don't give a shit if it goes round the moon twice in a heartbeat, I think it is hideous.

One step away from

When will all you boy racers get it into your heads that we drive an elegant quality car, not a Japanese Whore Machine
