I don't even need to click that, saw it yesterday. Basically, I think I like my flywheel as is. "Cheap" of lightening the bonnet though.

I know which thread Mark is referring to as well - sounds like a locally machined flywheel though, rather than a Spoon or Comptech item (which I would trust).

I've read horror stories about light weight flywheels online, and how they have gone back through the cabin and taken peoples feet clena off. Not sure how much truth there is to these, but in theory it should be able to do that from looking at the photos in the thread above.

I think fitting it yourself can also be part of the problem. So if you want one, buy one from a respected manufacturer, and get a pro to fit it.

on race minis the crank snaps at that point. most of the time it stays in the bell housing but can make one hell of a mess when it does go through

my old boss , who races mini's, has seen one where it hit the ground then bounced up throuh the cabin and out the roof just missing the driver

another guy who races a mustang had a flywheel let go under one of the bridges at a race circuit, part of it attached itself to the under side of the bridge

i've got a pic of a nova somewhere where the flywheel came out of the front of the car through the rad and bumper :|
