Oilmansi ...

Did you (do you) work in the chemical industry? I used to, and this takes me back!

Rheology, thixotropy ... good stuff

However, I think what everyone's fishing for is a definitive recommendation for oils in stock and a variety of modded conditions.

Nope although I have my own business.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/lubricants.htm

I can only recommend from the 6 brands that I actually sell and have sound chemical knowledge of so I would be accused of touting my own products.

I would use a decent fully synthetic 5w-40 (Motul 300V cough! Silkolene Pro S cough!) an ester/pao based one is the best for all round protection.

If you're running oil temps above 120degC then a 10w-50 may be needed.

Cheers

Nope - 10W-30 according to the manual, Tim. No idea where you've got 0W-30 from!

According to the recommendations I've had, posted above, it's 5w or 10w.

Cheers

So you wouldn't recommend the Castrol RS 0W-40 for the S2000?

(Sorry don't have time to read the whole thread at the moment)

I've only ever seen chemical tests on the 15w-50 which showed similar traces to Silkolene PRO R 15w-50 and that's a decent oil however I've not seen 10w-30.

I would have to honestly say the Silkolene is better value for money. Last time I looked, Redline was 25% more!! Ouch!

Still it's your money.

Well, I cant see a problem, it's an sae 40 and it flows better at cold than a 10w or a 5w. As it will be the same thickness as a 5w-40 and 10w-40 at 100degC I see no problems at the top end.

0w is better for cold start so I see no problems there either.

It's not in the handbook or my recommendations so I would have to say it's not recommended but there is no technical logic to the 5w and 10w only argument!

That's why I recommend 5w-40.

Cheers
Simon
