Default Lake district - needing some recommenation pls

Hi all

Off to the Lake District for the easter weekend, can anyone recommend a nice (preferably cheap) place to stay? Also, the "must see" scenic spots?. I have read of the SM4 in 2003 but cannot find any details, also the hardknot pass looks like a must I guess.

S2000 is now run in and the sun is out, time for weekend breaks away!

Thank you.
A.

Whoop Hall in Kirby Lonsdale was the base for SM4.

Hardknot Pass on Bank Hol weekend Forget it.

It's a scenic road but a crap driving road. Very tight, steep bends and single track Guess you can tell I don't rate it.

Honister is better, heading from Borrowdale to Buttermere. Kirkstone is good also.

I'm with Dave on this. Hardknot and Rhinose (sp?) passes are just too thin steep and windy for proper enjoyment. Add in plenty of sheep on the road and it's a just the ticket for frustration. It needs to be done in shitty weather, and even then you have to be careful as the entrance is often flooded just near where you turn right to head over into Langdale or go straight onto the Hardknot.

They're worth driving to sightsee, just not driving for enjoying driving.
