It's a special "no-harm-to-phones" magnet. On the back of my phone is glued a thin, flat, black metal disk and this is what happens when you put the two together. When you want to open the radio door, you swivel it through 90 degrees. I have a hands-free lead plugged in with an earpiece and microphone
