Default K&N Gen II intake

To those who have one what sort of gain (noise, power , general oomph) have you seen and what losses ( mpg etc)

Seriously thinking of getting one as the insurance loading doesn't seem too bad

Noise wise they are throaty but if like me you have an aftermarket exhaust (invidia) then any noise is cancelled out.

I have the K&N FIPK.

Installed last weekend, very easy!

Sound:

Well it makes a nice intake sound but with my exhaust I cant hear it in motion. I can only really hear it suck when I rev at a standstill, with the roof down.

Power:

Absolutely nothing if I am completely honest. I dont feel any further oomph in the slightest. It makes the exhaust a little louder but that's about it. I think with a tune I should be able to net more with a tune. Do not expect the quoted 9bhp out the box, its lies I tell you!!!

I did however crash my car the first time I vtec-ed it after the install.....

MPG:

I did my 90 mile round trip this friday and I think I used an extra bar of fuel, I will be able to tell you how much mpg I have lost at the end of this tank. I think I am down a fair bit of MPG though, I normally get around anywhere from 260 to 280 miles from a tank, I think I will be lucky to see 220 this tank full .

Run mine on my 04 for about 6 years and no problems just the lovely sound. I have the stock exhaust so no trouble hearing it. Would not make any claims for bhp gains.

I noticed extra pickup when the vtec kicks in which is actually where the FIPK gains the most power (I looked up on dyno's afterwards so seems legit i.e. 8bhp gain around vtec, at the top end you might get 2bhp most which is were most people expect it to be).

The noise is great as well and probably the best bit about the kit!

I've found the throttle response is slightly better, don't know about or expect any bhp gains, the noise is the main thing. Mpg is reduced for the first few hundred miles, you tend to drop a gear and be heavy footed more often to begin with

Just fitter k&n winkle red typoon kit to my 07 GT.

No real performance improvement but the noice is amazing! Its not noticeable until youre a bit heavy with your right foot and after 6k its ear plugs oclock!!! Yummy!!!!! cars is standard apart from eibachs.

I also had the dry charger bag to be sure its protected :-)

my mpg went up too.... that may be due to new spark plugs and all fliuds being changed though hmmmm
