Karting
I want to start racing karts with a mate so I thought I'd ask you lot if anyone is already involved, just need some advice and tips before we start out.
We're looking to share this so we'd buy a kart and all parts, insurance and anything else between us - will this work out ok or we need 2 of everything?
Any pointers would be appreciated - we're based just West of London.

Wehey - you're in for a top time !
I used to race Rotax Max competitvely down these parts. There's loads of choice, it just depends on cost, time, and more importantly whether you intend to use it a weekend hobby or competitive sport !
Give me an idea of budgets etc and I can give you some advice

Cool - nice one!
Just a weekend hobby at this stage, thats for sure! We both think we're good drivers and have taken part in loads of Kart days and corporate racing but nothing other than random battered karts you get at the tracks.
When we do these kart days we always finish in the top 3 and usual only end up racing with each other, saying that I realise we're complete novices with a couple of hours track time between us! I've also done some driving at Brands Hatch and took driver of the day, I was well chuffed! So basically the desire is there and we feel we could do well but at the same time we're realistic.
This is all just for fun but we need to be involved in something a little faster than the 10 minute beaters you get at the local track. Budget is ok as we hope to be able to split the cost and share the experience, what sort of money will we need? Can chuck a couple of grand at it each to start off?

Excellent - that will be plenty !
Best thing to do is find out where your local track is. Try UK Karting at www.karting.co.uk
Go along when they have a race meet on, and start talking to the people who race. They're a really friendly bunch (provided you haven't nurfed them off the track that is!)
You'll have to decide on what type of kart you want, I chose a Rotax Max as it was really user frindly, and went like stink ! It can hit well over 80mph on some of the larger tracks
You'll need a trailer, race suit, helmet, gloves, tools, kart stand etc.
Easiest way is to by a second hand package with lots of spares. There is a magazine UK Karting with an advirtisment section, and there's also one on the website!
Good luck - and ask any questions if you want
Cheers
