Default K&N & running lean

My air filter element was looking a bit mucky so I decided to replace it, and since it was only a few quid extra I bought a K&N element (not a full induction kit). I mentioned it to someone and they said that it might run lean and that it would need to be remapped.

Is this true? I thought that the ECU would automatically adjust the fueling if there was more air coming in, as might be the case with the mesh type filter (K&N) as opposed to the original paper one.

Any comments please.

Cheers

Chris

Assuming the airflow sensor does not become contaminated it will measure the air passing it and fuel accordingly

is there an airflow sensor on the s2000? i thought there was only a map sensor and airflow was calculated using that, revs and throttle position.

the ecu should correct any leaning up anyway. But the K&N doesn't flow significantly better than a brand new standard paper filter anyway so you shouldn't see any leaning issues.

It will cause no problem whatsoever. There is no MAF (mass ir flow) sensor, the S2000 uses a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) to calc engine load.

When you will get a problem is with some induction kits, they cause an irregular flow over the sensor, but this is really only on MAF based cars.

I bet the guy owns a scoob?

Map, Maf, Mob, Mib, Wab, Woob, all do the same things I've been on Holiday in the highlands for 3 weeks. Rear boots are shot; front pads almost on the metal I'd love to say it was wall to wall sunshine and perfect S2k weather but that wasn't the case - I didn't get anything like the drives I had planned

Talking of Scoobys, mark go to SN general and download Andy F a TOTB - jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus!!!!!!!!!
