Not sure I agree with the "cant afford it, can't have it" comment. I could afford the repayments on the car no problem at all. Just because I cant afford to spend 8 grand on a car in one lump sum doesn't mean i'm skint

Anyway, I get the picture guys. I kind of get the impression some of you don't agree with financing full stop, tho I can understand those who have saved up to pay for a car being proud of that.

You have managed to persuade me to wait anyway, Im going to put £500 aside each month while making an effort to get back in my banks good books, then look at getting a bank loan again later in the year but with a few grand saved up to put towards it.

I the mean time I will be doing a load of research to find the exact model year and spec s2000 I want and reading up on what I should be looking out for etc.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll be sticking around here now anyway.

Each to their own, finance costs f@#k all at the minute
Not on second hand cars it isn't - typical APRs are 8 -14%. Add in deprecation at 10-15% pa and suddenly a car costs al lot even before it is taxed and insured.

I'd be saving a bug chunk of my spare £1200 per month to put me in a far stronger position to negotiate on a cash purchase .

Instant gratification costs...
I didn't know that. Its great how banks offer 1% on savings and take 8% back on low risk

Hmm

Last time I borrowed was early 2000s when my calibra went to shit (?), the finance cost me a few £ hundred
