Default Just bought a super cool oil drain valve

Thought I'd share this little gem with you all..

Seems like a no-brainer. Came across it over on the US forums.

Basically you just replace the exisitng drain plug with this item and you can change the oil by simply leaning in to the engine bay and turn the valve and the oil comes out and hey presto. no need to jack car up!

Looks good!
But I'd still wire tie the top of the tap to make sure it stays closed

Sounds like a good idea.
But for me, its just another thing to go wrong.

Saw this a few weeks back and the same thing went through my mind. It's just something else to go wrong. Great if you are doing a lot of oil changes, but I'd worry about it unlocking itself and pouring all your oil over the road.

That pops up as an ad at the top of the page every once in a while. For that reason, I wasn't sure whether to trust it myself.

Seems to me more effort having to reach down through the engine bay than getting it from underneath. And the engine will be hot, so good chance of burning your arm if you're not careful.

Good concept, but as per the above posts i'd worry about it vibrating loose and losing all the oil. The other concern is that it appears to be smaller in bore than the oil drain hole which might stop any carbon or other debris form draining out of the engine with the oil.

I agree with Lower.

It'll leave a fair amount of oil in the sump, and that oil will have all the metal flakes in it.

I'll keep you all posted as to how it works for me.
Apparently if you need to get all the oil out you just have to jack up the car on the drivers side (so obviously our passenger)

Anway, as I said I'll keep you posted

I've never had a problem with a bolt TBH.

Was looking at the ad with the bloke's Mrs doing a change.

She did the change wrong and that was enough for me not to buy!
