I'm sure I've jumpstarted something with my S before, although can't remember what
My cousin once tried to jumpstart a boat engine (12v) using a 6v forklift. Not sure if it worked, but it was apparently a spectacular show

Always been advised to only jump start with a higher cc engine than the one you are trying to start.
Don't know how true.

I have jump started a totally dead 525d (my car don't ask) from my running S, fired up no prob.
I always have the side lights switched on on the donar car, the surge happens when you disconnect the two cars, this way any surge goes into the side lights not the ECU !

Sounds like dubious science to me.
The batteries are connected in parallel, so you'll already be charging the second battery for a while, before you start the second.
You then have a second alternator running too, so there should be minimal surge.
OK, if it's an Actros and you rev the bollox off it, then the S2000's bridge rectifier diodes and battery will explode!

The only thing with jump starting diesels or other large engines if their batteries are completely flat is the load going through the jump leads is quite high. The cheapo ones will get scarily hot after a few seconds cranking. If you make a habit of jumpstarting (or being jump started), it's a good idea to get some meaty jump leads, I'd say...
