If you take the offer of use of the demo car and wait for your own to be repaired, what are they prepared to offer as compensation if anything? ie free servicing and extended warranty.
After all the hassle I would be expecting something, although my latest experience of Honda customer service is they're full of empty promises and wind and piss.
If you reject it could you do a deal to buy No 33?

No compensation has been offered.

And I haven't asked for any either.

Although I did raise that if I took a replacement car and the engine subsequently broke - I didn't want another 6-11 week wait.


All efforts have gone into persuading me to continue to wait for my car.

If you get your car replaced, with another one manufactured in the same batch as yours, there would be still a probability it develops a similar problem.

Unless Honda did identify the culprit for this mishap(and kept it behind closed doors), and addressed it in recent engine production, it would be safer to get the engine replaced. If they didn't, all recent engines produced "MIGHT" develop the same fault.

I'm acutely aware that it could happen again in another 09 S.

And ironically replacing the engine is no guarantee it won't happen again.

Trish's and my engine are still crated up waiting to be air freighted to Japan as the engineers are keen to investigate.

But they won't be shipped out until my new engine arrives courtesy of Helen McArthur.


So - even if they put a new engine in my car... it could fail 7000 miles down the line.

I would also reject the car and go and do the deal on number 33 if you still want to be in a white S? Or else go and buy and 08/09 moonrock and put the £8K saving in your piggy bank, I just cannot see them being worth £4-5000 more in three years time

I'd be tempted to give it back. Depends if you are anal like me and would always be unhappy than my brand new car had an engine transplant. Unless they manage to replace it without trace (ie no scrapes in the engine bay)

I'd either do as STi says, or take another new car. Of course there is no guarantee the new one won't fail, but at least you get an untarnished car. If it fails, repeat

There is an argument to say you let them replace it, get some compensation, and go on 10 trackdays in their demo car in the meantime

From all the options you mentioned I'd be less romantic but more sensible and do this:

A) Take a new car. If the engine fails at least you are back to where you started.

B) Give them the car back i.e. they buy it back. Cite the fact that you dont trust the product anymore.

C) Fix you car but reach a compromise like extended warranty or better still, a guaranteed new engine in their stock waiting for you.

Frankly, if you can take a new car do it.

Just playing with the online insurance quotes with Admiral last week.

In the mods section is tick box for "Replacement Engine".
Which suggest they load for this but have no idea why or how much.

Also the engine change goes on the service record.
I had an Audi A3T that had a new short engine at 20k.
It didnt stop me buying it at three years old, but it might affect other future resale.
Oh, and you need to update the V5 obviously.

Personally I would excercise the 'Lemon Law' and hand it all back.
Go buy another cheaper and you may be in profit
