Default JDM mph help please...

Hi everyone,
i know this has probably been covered plenty of times but i cant find exactly what im looking for in the search, and some of the info ia have found is from circa 2003ish and info is out of date.
Sorry to go into this again for those that have heard it a million times but does anyone have any photos of the "Soldering" that has to be done in a JDM dash for speedo conversion to mph? and does it convert the odometer reading
Also, if i buy a speed restrictor will it convert too or is it a separate issue?

or can anyone recomend such a restrictor/convertor from experience please. Theres a box on ebay that says does both, its nineteen pounds and seems a bit too good to be true for that price or is that how much they are???
Sorry about all the questions, u guys are probably getting tired of newbies askin them over and over but im gettin my car in about three weeks and want to know exactly what im doin so i can put it in the garage at work, get it all done for sva, get it registered as i cant wait to start drivin it biggrin.gif revto9k.gif biggrin.gif
Sorry to be a pain

Don't know much about them, other than what I've picked up on here, although mine is a JDM.

You don't want a speed restrictor, you want a DE-restrictor. The JDM's are limited to 113mph (or the top end of 112mph, if you look at my speedo when I'm caning it. )

The speedo convertor is down by the gearbox. I replaced mine recently, after I drowned the old one. The replacement was 25 squid. A little piece of plastic with 5 wires coming out of it.

Although, there is some other wiring behind the dash, if I've been informed correctly. Shipley can probably help. He might turn up in the morning.

Speedo convertor:

http://www.ckspeed.co.uk/

(Thanks to motogp1 for the original linky)

That gets wired into this loom by the gearbox:

The little black box, that looks like it doesn't belong there, is the old speedo converter that I fried. Replaced with the one from the above link. That's on the passenger side of the gearbox. Full instructions for soldering are provided with the device.

Still haven't been derestricted yet, however. I've yet to ask that question on here. It was derestricted, but something has gone wrong somewhere along the line.

EDIT: Don't think the derestrictor failed because of what I did, but can't honestly be sure.

do u just splice the wires and connect the box in the middle?
Thanks by the way for the link man, spot on!! this looks like a much easier option than the dash rewiring so i might be ordering it in the next couple days if i cant find photos for the insides of the dash. regarding your derestriction, it says on the link you gave me that the box also acts as a deristrictor. maybe yours is faulty???

So it does! Well spotted! See, I told you that I know feck all about these things.
Like I said, all of this is stuff I learned from here, so it's a bit like Chinese whispers at the moment.
Yeah, you just splice the wires, then solder the device in the middle. Then make sure it's watertight. Mine clearly wasn't watertight beforehand.
I soldered, then used heat-shrink insulation on it. The previous bit of kit was insulated with electricians tape.

Still not really sure about the dash convertor. There was a mention of a dash convertor and the gearbox one, when I first mentioned it earlier in the year. Never got the full story though,
