Thought I'd do a couple of bits this morning -

Tap the map sensor, oil, water etc..and I thought I'd check the plugs whilst I was at it.

First thing I noticed - VERY stiff - they creaked as they came out. Lets just say "gently does it" with a hint of cringe.

First three came out fine, looked the right colour, but look to never have been gapped. Got out the feeler gauges, they were 1mm :suprised:

Regapped the first three, got to the last one (nearest bulkhead) - TOTALLY jammed in.

Tried putting a small (foot long) breaker on it, still nothing. The last thing I want to do is snap the bloody thing so it'll just have to stay in there.

Anybody got any ideas?!

Warm the engine up, turn her off, then have a go.

I thought that platinum/iridum plugs aren't supposed to be gapped....

with what Loftust said with the proviso that if it won't move easily when the engine is warm them leave it alone. The likelyhood is that it's been cross threaded. This is fixable but it needs a pro to do it if you want to avoid huge expense. Take it to a good garage IMHO.

lower - I read the same. I also read that one should gap any plugs. I read various reasons they shouldn't be gapped, and various reasons for those inital reasons to be negated. I figure if the gap should be .44, then that's what I'll set it to.


Aldfort - I'll be doing just that, I'm certainly not about to try to force it out so if it doesn't come out after a warm up, it can stay in!

Aye warm it up as the others said, theres a picture with all the sparkplugs that an S would take with heat-ratings in the FAQ IIRC - its a few pages on.

A stuck spark plug is bad news, they should be correctly gapped when you buy them i used to gap them for my old panda (for the timing) thats because i needed to.
