Isn't the S2k just a poor man's NSX, which is in itself a poor man's Ferrari......?

I don't doubt that the new boxster S may be 'a bit' quicker than the S2.. my point by comparing it to the TVR was that it doesn't stand comparison to the S2, the std Boxster stands more comparison.. and the S is very comparable in performance to the new Boxster and still a hell of a LOT cheaper. They've moved in the right direction though

I'd take the trev if i had the spare budget. My S costs pennies to run really (hot hatch money servicing etc) compared to Porsche or indeed TVR servicing and that's good cos I barely use it .. There again I only live 7 miles from work and my mtb is very reliable alternate commuter transport

I don't doubt there are some enthusiasts with Boxsters but I don't think (from my perspective which I'm sure is very personal) it stands up as a package. Too pricey for a 280hp motor.

There are no TVR dealers anywhere near me

I don't think the "can't afford a 911" criticism of the Boxster is a very fair one - not of the Boxster S, anyway. And certainly not of the 987 S.
The Boxster will always be the poor mans Porsche to many (its been done to death on most car forums and will continue to be so as long as theres a Boxster and a 911! )...... the funny thing is that when I had the S2000 I always lusted after an NSX (and still do) but couldn't afford one at the time....... now that I've got the 987S there is absolutely zero in me that wants a 911 but left right and centre everyone assumes thats what a Boxster driver wants

And before anyone asks why I didn't get an NSX...... I did ask but my company car guys said NO!

Not to mention the fact that an NSX is a completely different looking car to an S. It's not even a convertible.

The Boxster and 911 are too similar in looks for my taste - which is great of course if you're trying to pass yourself off as a high flier but that's about it imo.

Personally, I view the Boxster with much the same derision as "MR2 Ferraris" - they look roughly the same but underneath it all it's just the poor man's equivalent.

I what sense? The Boxster now uses many parts from the 997..... doors, bonnet, brakes so you could argue that you are getting 911 parts for Boxster prices!

That's a pretty feeble analogy (IMHO, of course).

It also very strongly suggests that you have never actually looked beyond your own perception of the car's image and actually driven one. There is much to recommend the Boxster (at least in its S variant, anyway) beyond the marque.

I have no particular flag to fly for the Boxster. I just find it irritating to read so much ill- or semi-informed clap trap about a genuinely very able car.

Isn't the 911 also not a drop top - that was my point - they are different sorts of cars for different sorts of people.

I don't see Geldof raising awareness for Boxster drivers if they are so poor.....

In its "true" form, admittedly - but every former incarnation has had a 911 cabriolet iteration, and the 997 is due to get the tin opener treatment in due course, I gather.
