I've got this Squeak/Rattle/Noise/Vibration
Advice:
If you have any of these things and you can't identify it - DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR!!
As one member reported, his hub almost came off.
Suffice to say at 70mph this would have a good chance of killing you, and worse, someone else.
The likely hood of us correctly identifying the noise from your post is highly unlikely.
Get the car (SLOWLY) down to the nearest garage you trust and ask them to identify it.
ATEOTD, it is going to cost you money.
However...
Money or your life....

I agree with you - I find it quite frustrating, but to be fair there are a number of people on here that work on their own cars so it is useful for them to discuss possible causes.
Plus it has sorted it in some cases.

No problem with that, but know your limits and get it checked out by a pro!

The reason i wondered about the possible reasons behind my own squeaking problem is exactly the reason above... i am not mechanical at all!!
The problem when going to a "pro" is that when you arent mechanical, how are you to know that they aren't just making stuff up to fleece you for more cash?
Ive done a search and found some potential problems, but just wanted some confirmation of what might be the problem specific to my case.

Having said that - I've saved money after the event as I never let them do the work on the car. If they want to do something - come on here and you will usually find parts cheaper and poss suggests on how to do it yourself

Very true, but the vague description of the location these people are giving is pointing toward there lack of mechanical competence.

hmmm, i just posted regarding a squeak i have started noticing...
NB: I am mechanically experienced and 'wrench' on my own cars.
I know nothing about dentistry, so visit my NHS specialist rather than grab the cordless from the garage.
You get my point?
Never to late to learn, then you won't get fleeced.
