Insurance Warning
I was speaking to my insurer last month (Direct Line) and the operator mentioned that it regards different tyres to standard as a mod that must be declared or risk invaliding insurance.
I thought that the person must have been misinformed and thought nothing more of it. However, yesterday i saw the headline of Motorcycle News which said that Norwich Union did the same thing.

95% of the cars on the road must have different tyres to that specified as new. And we can't get our standard tyres anymore, which must also be true of most cars more than a few years old.

Doesn't say you can't get insurance, just that it's a factor that should be declared

When i spoke to direct line they didnt mention whether or not it would affect the premium, just that it must be declared. They definately were talking about brands not sizes of tyre btw.
I too thought it was complete rubbish, and i dont know if they would ever get away with not paying in the event of an accident, but I know a lot of people on here run "non standard" tyres so thought it worth mentioning.
