Default Insurance renewal...

My insurance renewal arrived from Privilege last week - £539 fully comp.

Normally I just renew as it usually seems like a good deal, but this is up a bit from last year so I thought I'd try Gocompare (You are all now have that jingle in your heads, don't you?)

I was surprised to see Privilege so far down the list - behind the AA, RAC and even Kwikfit. Best like for like quote was from Swiftcover at a frankly ridiculous £393.

I rang Privilege to let them know they were uncompetitive and see what they would do. I got a pitch about them covering me against uninsured drivers (fair enough) but only a £10 reduction in premium. "We don't do price matching, Sir". I cancelled.

Chris Knott couldn't get near the best quote so Swiftcover got the business. Fully comp, courtesy car cover, legal cover, windscreen cover. 7 yrs NCB. One CD10 conviction 4 years ago. I'm 43 and work as a Deputy Head.

I have read some contradictory reviews on them on here - some pleased, some not, but I think I could read the same for most insurers, so I'm £146 to the good at the minute. Like all insurers I hope I never have to find out how good they really are!

Might be worth a look if you are about to renew. "You'll thank your stars that you went..." - sorry!

Dave.

I have admiral multi car

I'm guessing my £1000 excess is probably why with 6000 miles limited millage on the policy.

I don't drive my car enough

We havent had an insurance thread for a few days

My modified 335i was £370 for the pair of us FC, every policy extension you can get and £50 excess.
Fault claims, mods and SP30 in there too. Im 42 and a skilled worker (allegedly)

Quote me happy?
You bet.
Somerset is a great place for cheap car insurance.

You must be! I'm the same age, same NCB & no convictions yet (touch wood! )

£500 with £250 excess - Chris Knott & Flux came out similar. But I'm not happy with CK so won't be using them at renewal.

Could be the area though?

It never pays to stay with the same insurer year after year.

I continuously change every year as the renewal price is always higher - sometime you can get them down but i have found its cheaper moving elsewhere.

I went with RAC this year I was very surprised as Chris Knott, Adrian Flux etc came no where near the RAC in price.

Im having the opposite problem! Insured my S in Jan with elephant for around £800 all in (I say ABOUT £800 because i changed the policy from an old volvo!) but all in all it works out to about £800.

Im shopping around at the mo as my renewal is in six weeks. Im struggling to get quotes below £1300, same details as in Jan, with my mum as a named driver, but with an extra years no claims and a years experiance in the car! To say im confused is an understatement! If i take my mum off, quotes rocket to £2k plus.

Flux are coming good at £850 with just me on. I'll give them a call come renewal, but if its too good to be true and all that....
