Sorry, was reading late. You're doing all you can just keep a note/receipt of every single penny that you lose, INCLUDING premiums. You will get money back but it'll be up to you to make sure you get all of it back.

I guess it's because NU are claiming on your behalf. My accident is still outstanding after 2 years, but because I claimed directly from their insurance co without involving mine, I think it's helped the premium position.
Davey - brokers aren't all bad, mine gets rates I just can't beat by going direct!

The policy i have includes no claims discount protection so, the way i understand it is my insurance company (Norwich Union) should not be increasing my premium due to the accident; am i understanding this correctly ?
Geoff.
Geoff.
All the protected no claims gives you is protection to the % discount you get through not claiming. So if you've got 60% no claims bonus, you get a 60% reduction on the premium they calculate based on your risk profile.
You've now claimed, irrespective of fault, so until that is settled your risk profile has changed. You will still get 60% discount, but because your risk profile has changed the base premium before discount will have risen, hence the rise they are quoting you.
To illustrate, say your original risk profile calculated a premium of

I am currently in exactly the same situation except that the accident was to my other car just before insurance renewal on my S. Funny isn't it that discounts such as NCD apply to the car and, therefore, I could not get the same discount on both cars when I bought the S a year ago, but faults and costs are on the driver so it affects both policies !!
Its not nice when anything happens that is not your fault - especially when you are not even in the car, but at least no injuries. Take solice, my car was hit so hard whilst parked that is being written off (about

Take your business elsewhere - you won't have to declare an accident that didn't result in a claim off your insurance policy AFAIK?
Tell the broker this and see how keen he is to keep your business. I certainly wouldn't accept that you would 'probably' get a refund, that's ridiculous.
Try A-Plan, they are very competitive.

What are you driving now since your car has been written off? You should be able to claim for a hire car as your neighbour has deprived you the use of your S2000 over the period it takes to sort out the claim. If you run a second car and are driving it now then you should be able to claim the added wear resulting from having to use it when you would have used the S2000. Have a word with your insurance company/legal cover.
