I wouldn't inform for the tyres, but I did inform my insurer of the wheel change as I went down to 16"s.

I was charged £23, which seemed fair for the admin.

Technically not a standard part of that model, so that is why I told them.

In relation to the tyres, I am a bit unclear about the effect of the lower speed rating the tyres will have over the OEM, but assumed as I won't be doing over the 130 limit of my winter tyres it shouldn't be an issue.

If I did exceed the speed rating I would not expect to be covered.

£23 or whatever charge for 'admin' is a joke! All they do is type the details onto your file. 20 seconds tops even for a one finger typer...

Makes my blood boil these insurance companies, got us by the short and curlies so can do almost what they want...

Had similar conversation on Wednesday with BIL who has put winter tyres on his BMW.

You think the insurance companies would like the fact that you are taking all precautions but no, anything to get money off you.
Actually if he fitted the winter wheel and tyre package offered by BMW he shouldnt have any issues.
Most will not load if its a BMW approved and dealer fitted mod. There's a long thread on E90post.com

The issue for almost everyone who needs winters on a sport car is that they wont come in the same profile.
Winters are not low profile for obvious reasons, so the rims are always smaller.
A modification.

Why are you all getting hit for 'admin' fees to make mods?
We have been with Admiral for years and I have called them to amend the mods list about five times with no fees.

Flux charge me about £420 for my insurance. Any changes attract an admin fee of £15 or so.

Admiral wanted £800 for the same insurance, so Flux works out a lot cheaper over all.

You pays your money...
