Your quote of £1100 at 23 seems to me to be a good offer given some of the figures people get on here.

Obviously older cars tend to carry lower premium given their age. The S is a high insurance group so i don't think you'll get much lower. Not sure if VSA models or GTs etc will make that much difference.

Just curious is that fully comp or 3rd party? I don't think I'd ever go 3rd party on any car over 3K in value.

it must be fully comp because they would only insure me that way on that kind of car

I agree, was just saying that the OP shouldnt be worried about being spat off the road by the car.

FWIW I was 27 at renewal, 5yr NCB. £590 FC with Chris Knott.

I bought my S2000 after 17 years on a 'Classic car' policy without making a single claim only to find they don't attract NCB. So with zero NCB I managed to insure thro Adrian Flux for less than £800 by using a limited mileage of 5000 miles and single driver.

At 23 Flux insured me for £500 with 5k limited mileage, £600 unlimited.
At 24 (now) with Flux still it's around the same.

BlueFlame exhaust system is also on the policy.

At the time everyone else wanted 900-1000.

To OP: If I could run the Porsche for less then I wouldnt even look at the Honda.
At least not for a while.
350Z is a decent drive, but a droptop looks a mess.

Have you looked at Z3 or Z4 as a comparison?
Good replies here folks, makes for interesting reading. I appreciate my insurance will be slightly higher than an average 23 year old due to having an accident/points in '07 but it appears to not have made THAT big an impact.

With regards to the quoted post, I have looked at Z3's but I find them to be very hit or miss with the combinations of colours people chose them in. I'd really be hoping for a 3.0 or an M - I'd probably want an M to be honest for the rare factor. I can insure one of those (M roadster) for under a grand too, think it was stupidly low actually at about £700 with the 350Z - especially considering for an E36 M3 they want more than the S

Anyway, I'd imagine having an M roadster would be dangerous, no TC and having no prior RWD experience and all that torque - I'd imagine I'd be more likely to spin etc. in that than an S and with the S being considered relatively safe NCAP wise I'd probably be worse off in the BM. A tad more than I'd like to spend at about £9k too but if you folks can prove me wrong about the danger aspect I'll just get saving as I do love them, so unique.

Z4's are quite cool but for a decent spec 3.0 I'm still looking at well above budget. Looking for a step in between the likes of my CTR and say a Z4M or Cayman S which can teach me how to drive properly without dropping me into huge running costs and rancid MPG. I think a regular Z4 would blur the lines a bit much.

With regards to the Porsche there are a lot of scare stories about engine failure etc. which could lead to massive running costs. Also I'm hoping to do a reasonable amount of servicing and maintenance myself and not sure how this would go down resale wise with a Boxster.

LTB - thanks for the PM, frantically looking for insurance still. Very much doubt I'll be able to secure a decent deal and sell my EK9 before someone bites your hand off though.
