So we moved house November last year and now have off street parking in what I imagine is a lower risk area. I'm currently with Adrian Flux who have quoted my renewal price at £630. Rang Sky and they quoted £590 but I had told them my renewal cost.

Thought I'd do a Meerkat comparison for a laugh - have used them before and I'm sure it was 550 upwards.

I have a lot of quotes under £400 and Diamond have quoted me £306 !!!!!!

I know I'm getting on a bit at 41 and JJ's 37 but this seems very cheap - can I trust an online quote (always done it by phone before?). I have put down no mods as only have a strut and x-brace fitted - everything else standard (baring the radio door and knob!). I also have about 16 years NCB.

The price alone does not tell the whole story! For instance, what is the excess? This can make an enormous different to the quotation!

I wouldn't bother with gocompare etc, Keith Michaels/Sky Insurance always come in a lot lower than comparisons sites.

Keith Michaels gave me a stonking deal with all mods declared, though they do like a bit of clean history with RWD cars no points etc.

I've done the online comparisons for my insurance for the last few years now. Never had a problem; you just call whichever company has provided the best quote and they'll run through everything again anyway. My insurance came up at around £200 cheaper with Elephant via the comparison website than Sky were quoting (£490 instead of £690)

Just tried Direct Line BOM but they came back at 615. Can't work it out. I've checked the details I put into Meerkat and they are correct, excess is £350 so that's fine

Could they not refuse to payout in the event of a crash even with just these mods? I'd play it safe and declare them.

£306 is a very nice price though!

Perhaps the price is the reflection of the onset of middle age and that our cars (by that I mean yours and mine) are worth the best part of bugger all

In my experience it all depends on age and personal circumstances (points, location, mods etc). What might always appear best for one particular individual won't necessarily prove cheapest for others. Shop around if you want to ensure the best deal and if you're young try adding an older relative to keep the premium down, even if they never drive the car.

I find price comparison sites give me the best result and have used them for the last 8-10 years without any problems, and usually end up changing insurer every year. If you are happy with the deal Vixen then go for it, I pay just over £300 so your quote is not 'silly'. My daughter was with diamond last year and she had no problems (they dealt with a no fault accident for her as well).
