Have you considered an mx5 or mr2?
MR2 will hav slightly different handling charactoristics due to it being mid engined whereas the 5 is front engined like the S2000.

i'm a youngster and paying ridiculous insurance on the S, i've never owned a rwd car before (tho i have driven quite a few beemers if that helps) but that doesn't mean i'm going to crash* because i'm under 25
I say go for it mate if you can afford it, whats the point in buying an mx5 then getting used to rwd then buying an S, the money yer going to loose on the mx5 will pay for the S insurance and just take it easy especially in the wet and get used to the S
