Have you considered an mx5 or mr2?
It may be worth you spending a bit less on a cheaper roadster (to insure and buy) for a couple of years to get you used to RWD sports cars. My first winter of owning an mx5 was a BIG learning experience. You soon learn what you can and can't do in a RWD. By the time you have had it for a year or so you will have an extra year no claims (unless you have put it backwards through a hedge), and more importantly you will be an extra year older.

MR2 will hav slightly different handling charactoristics due to it being mid engined whereas the 5 is front engined like the S2000.

It'll only end up in a ditch if you don't treat it with respect

i'm a youngster and paying ridiculous insurance on the S, i've never owned a rwd car before (tho i have driven quite a few beemers if that helps) but that doesn't mean i'm going to crash* because i'm under 25

I say go for it mate if you can afford it, whats the point in buying an mx5 then getting used to rwd then buying an S, the money yer going to loose on the mx5 will pay for the S insurance and just take it easy especially in the wet and get used to the S

*waits to crash now
It doesn't mean you are going to crash if you are under 25, but they are just quoting more likely statistics. To be honest, its a bit b0ll0cks, but insurance companies know that they can charge young drivers high amounts, and use stupid statistics as a back up. Still, young drivers represnt a bigger risk, not because of their ability, but because of their attitude. I'm 26 now and I have calmed down plenty since my late teens, early twenties, but i'll still be inclined to 'have a go' if someone is willing. Still, I was paying
