So what compliment of braces do you have, Dembo?

Front top and bottom, rear top and the lower X brace?

Not including the master cylinder one
Complimenting the standard chassis, I have front upper and lower Whiteline, and rear upper and lower Cusco. Generally the lower ones are good, the upper ones just add weight.

The lower X-brace & rear lower are needed to gild the lily.

But it's a reasonable question as to why there isn't an upper; The Civic VTi has one.

Guess Honda figured they's already put enough meat into the H-bone chassis.

Or else it went the same way as the mystical cold air intake.

I had the cusco upper and lower in mine, and I think the lower one made more of a difference than just the upper on it's own.

I was talking to Chris F about this a while ago, and he reckoned anti-roll bars were the way to go to improve handling, before going with braces........however, everyone seem to go for braces...

Thoughts? Is there a massive price difference?

Dunno, I haven't really got a clue what I'm doing - just going with the flow really.

ARBs are certainly more difficult to fit than an Upper STB but for 60 quid I would say it was a decent investment.

I fitted the three accessible ones (left the rear upper as is...OEM part only), and noticed a substantial difference.

ARB's would probably be a useful next step, but depends what you're after...and they'll be more

Glad you are happy, 60 note was a steel.

Braces (and lighter wheels) help the relatively fade-prone damping work better on bad UK roads.

Thicker ARBs redude the independence of the suspension & introduce unpleasant 'waddle' on bad surfaces. Also, with even less roll, there is less indication of breakaway. So you will change its characteristics.

If you change one end & not the other, you'll change the under/oversteer balance of the car; something Honda was buggering about with up to the last minute. Many felt they'd got the rear a bit too stiff, originally. They backed them off with the 17" wheels, so there IS a case for putting 'em back on a later car.

In other words, ARBs are probably the next thing after braces, which bring the best out of what's already there. And I think the car is just on the edge of acceptable ride comfort, as it is.

But once you start buggering with ARBs (and dampers) you really need to know what you're doing.

Indeed, get Chris Franklin to explain it to you, before spending your money!
