Yes, the Volvo spec is for Volvos. If you can imagine a Volvo is a big massive car that weighs 2 tonnes, not a light nimble sports car. The tyre will be specially designed to cope with the weight.

The Bridgestone ER300 you have fitted is described as "Complete control and quiet comfort This is Bridgestone's premium touring tyre, designed to complement the engine power and ride comfort of luxury and mid-range touring models"

The Bridgestone RE050A is described as "ULTRA-HIGH PERFORMANCE FOR SPORTY DRIVERS This tyre is fitted on the world's leading sports cars, like the Ferrari Enzo, before they leave the factory. Also available also in the replacement market, it is the perfect tyre for sporty, demanding drivers of high-performance compacts, executive saloons and super-sport models"

So if the tyre place won't swap the tyre for a RE050A and nothing else, then your best bet is to put an ER300 on the other side to balance the car up.

ok.Thanks.So following on from lovegroova,s and your posts, the one he wants to order for me(has ordered), the Volvo one, is NOT suitable.I can see that tomorrow I am going to be trying to negotiate a refund, as I don't really want ER300s on the car. I wonder why the guy said you can't get RE050 FRONTS any more.
My head is becoming scrambled. I never had this problem with my 3 geared Ford Popular

The RE050A can be found, a look through most of the online tyre shops camskill, blackcircles, eventyres, tyretraders and you will find them. It might be more of a niche tyre than he's normally used to fitting. Don't accept the Volvo tyre.

But if you've only ever heard a £200 Comet stereo, you won't know what you're missing. Same with the getting the geo done properly. There's a reason why there's so many posts on here gushing praise for CG. Most of those people weren't aware that anything was "wrong" beforehand, but they certainly know that it's a lot better afterwards.
Exactly the point, I was trying to make... if poorly.

Until you spend the money and invest in the proper service you won't know what you are missing.

There is also the difference between having the kit and having the knowledge/experience of how to use it. This is where CG, WiM etc. add the value and your average garage with the kit cannot... as I said before...

Been to Apex.He was prepared to take off the ER300, put my old tyre back on and give me a full refund.Having waited a while to have it done, the guy said he could get me a specific Bridgestone for the Honda after all, but it wouldn't be here until Tuesday.I'll just pay the difference.I double-checked he was ordering the correct tyre, so I hope this is correct(according to Technical FAQ) :
FRONT
205/55 R16 Bridgestone RE 050A 91W.
That's what's been ordered. So he says leave the ER300 on and he'll put the correct one on Tuesday.
Phew! Hopefully now the tyre will be the correct one.

Yes.I'm very pleased with the result. I have to say I arrived at the garage this morning with the technical data for the front tyres. He double-checked with his order. So hopefully the correct tyre will come on Tuesday. To be fair, the guy was very good.He seemed to accept what I/you said about the ER300 and the Volvo tyre. Then very soon I'll need the other front tyre done.Appointment with CG made for the 13th, provisionally.Sorry to have gone on about this tyre saga.Shows just how helpful people here can be.
What I'm after now is somethingthat actually works cleaning the rear plastic window of the hood.
