09 with 19k miles and no issues. But I fear this is tempting fate...

I regret to inform you that as of today I have noticed my car is also making a horrible noise between 2-2.4 thousand revs. I will take it into Honda next week and see.

Mine is an 08 plate by the way, 13k miles on the clock.

Gutted.
Nooooo!! Gosh I hope you get it sorted quick LL.
As a matter of interest does your engine number fall between those that Bokkie mentioned?

No it doesn't Hammy, mine starts 107... I started it up later on (about four hours after posting this) and nothing at all can be heard with a cold engine but as soon as the temperature went up five bars and the revs come down off of choke then throttling up to 2k the sound started. Mine isn't tappety at all but sounds as if someone has dropped a ball bearing under the rocker.

Sorry to hear that.

Even if it IS a reasonably simple fix (I woudn't rule it out) it shouldn't have happened on so new a car.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Sorry to hear about your Engine, just can't believe what is happening. Can you confirm your car is the model with the 5 spoke wheels and not an 08 with the 10 spoke i.e. previous revision?

Thanks

Could anyone with the problem noises post up some recordings or videos?

I have an 08 that I'm getting paranoid about, I have a slight noise between 2.5 and 4, without reading this thread a wouldn't have given a second thought to it. The car has done 30000 now and is about 500 engine numbers before the first one I've seen recorded here. Fingers crossed I would know about it by now...

I'll get a video of my slight noise up at some point so people can listen if they wouldn't mind.

Here is a quick recording of my car. Mine seems to be clutch related I think. Sitting in neutral.

At 19 seconds I dip and hold the clutch in, and the sound goes completely. Any ideas on this one? Normal? My dad reckons it could be something to do with the clutch forks vibrating until they are loaded up when I press the clutch down. I know nothing about how clutches work myself

The sound is a bit more pronounced in real life to be honest.

I will try and get a recording of mine this week.. I didn't hear much in your recording to be honest apart from revving. If you hold the revs at a certain amount what happens? If I hold mine at 2.2k then the ball bearing sound is quite loud .. but then I've not tried to record it thus far. Will so so as soon as I can!

By the way.. 10 spoke wheels but as I have said in the other thread I do not agree that that has any bearing on the issue.

LL's car has the 10 spokes...do not get bogged down in thinking that slightly earlier models (MY08) are unaffected...it has been quite clearly stated on numerous occasions that this problem affects MY08/09.

To play it safe, go for MY07 or earlier.

Mine just stays a constant sound. Does yours go when the clutch is pushed in? Mine is certainly something clutch related I think, so perhaps just a typical issue rather than late model engine specific I think...

They all do that (noisy bearing of some sort whilst in neutral), goes away when you push the clutch pedal.

zzkamikazezz; can't hear your sound recording but clutch noise on the S2000 is standard and Honda supply that noise for free

probably a rattly throwout bearing from how you describe it and it's very common. Nothing to worry about.
