Joy of joys, I've got the 'S' back at last. New gearbox and diff fitted and no longer a whine at 30 & 60 mph
The car will be going back in September to have a new bottom engine, clutch and thrust bearing fitted, by my reckoning if they carry on this way the only thing they wont have replaced will be the oil filler cap
So after 27,000 miles driving it hard around Europe etc, I will now have a completely new engine/drive train - no complaints if that's what Honda want to do.
What I would advise other owners to do is get the 'noises' checked out, making sure it is raised with Honda Technical and if there is a fault get it fixed - that's what warranty is for. Even if the fault does not appear in the warranty period then you will have at least made Honda aware and with all the pages on the forum and Ian's discussions with Honda UK they would still have a case to answer.
Okay it is a major issue but why sell such a brilliant car (and definitely at a loss) when it looks as if Honda are dealing with the issues at last. Whatever had been the outcome of the faults on my car, I always intended to keep it, as it is still a real sports car without all the gimmicks.
Remember the good times, France, Monaco, Italy, Germany and the Ring, and all those times with the roof down and vtec singing!

I may start having a change of heart depending what they say on September 2nd when I return mine for 'further investigation'
Unfortunately the stupid Fleet Manager at our place () put forward a cost saving plan in her review that opt out vehicles such as her gorgeous S2000 should have capped CO2 levels at possibly sub 160. They've now decided that might be a very good idea so I may only have a year of performance driving on the company fuel card.
