I'm going to refrain from saying you had none to begin with

So they can fix the whine, but are still unclear about the engine noise

At least it's getting investigated
It couldn't get much lower after owning a Fiat Panda diesel!

Alan, so sorry to hear that you are having issues with (as JK puts it) the COOLEST S2000. But it sounds like things are progressing on the gearbox & diff front so fingers crossed that it all turns out ok on that score. But the engine issues remain

Which brings me back to my beloved S: I got Jenson back at the end of last week and a report from HUK the middle of this week. Would've updated sooner but clearing work down to go on holiday today.

The gear lever insulator retainer (gaiter) was replaced with a new part - I suspect the old one was broken when the gearbox was last worked on and it was not replaced. Following this replacement, HUK were unable to replicate the whirring, grinding noise. They swopped exhaust and cat between Jenson and the baseline HUK S2000 to no effect.

The upshot is they have concluded that the new gaiter has worked some sort of magic and the noise I'd heard was due to the incorrectly fitted gaiter which allowed excessive gearbox and clutch noises into the cabin (which wouldn't normally be heard). I'd be fine with this if the original speculation at HUK when I was down there was that it was indeed gearbox or clutch related! However this was not the case - the master technician thought at the time that it was neither gearbox nor clutch. (To be fair, I must point out that it was he who wrote the report on behalf of HUK and so I'm comfortable that he would be able to identify the noise if it had since been heard.)

As things stand I'm leaving today on a 2,300 mile hoon around Europe, taking in the Stelvio and the Verdon Grand Canyon (thanks Mike )and will drive my car as per the old motto: Drive it like you stole it in essence I'm on a 2,300 mile test drive! Warranty cover extends into Europe so if anything does occur, I'll be on the phone.

Now all I have to do is to put all of this out of my mind for the next 2 weeks! Suspect it won't take long!

As far as the 08/09 issue and HUK goes, I've not heard anything further regarding any other testing and so am up for whatever the club, in it's wisdom, decides to do on behalf of the impacted owners.

I've suggested that all those who provided details to Bundle of Mayhem also confirm the dealers through whom they purchased their vehichel and those who subsequently carried out warranty repairs as these are the parties with whom we have contracts. And any specialist motor vehicle solicitor will not touch our case if they have any of these parties (or indeed HUK) as a client. So it'd be good to have this info to hand should we pursue the legal angle.

And before anyone has a dig at me for thinking I'd get any further info out of HUK, I do still think there are things going on behind the scenes of which we are unaware and that HUK will be the proverbial frantic duck in trying to resolve this, although from the outside all will appear calm and inert!

Hi Trish

Have a fantastic time and put all worries out of your mind as soon as you hit France! I am missing continental tours, especially after our 4000 mile europe tour last year - .
decided to work on the house this year

Enjoy Stelvio, I have driven it twice and loved it each time.

Alan

With regards to Honda and them thinking it'll blow over, I've filled in a questionnaire at a race meeting that had all the usual questions and when I got to the one regarding "would you buy another Honda" (or words to that effect) I said no and informed them of the reasons behind my loss of faith, no reply - no surprise but maybe we should all try the same if we get the chance on one of their marketing forms, not much I know but anything must help surely.? I did get a few spare and handed them to mates to fill in with similar answers.

The relaibility issues (same with all modern rubbish) has put me off buying a new Honda, it's true.

Although it's more to do with them capitulating & chasing Hyundai instead of BMW, Porsche & Ferrari with their snore boxes.

Got an update yesterday from Marshalls via Pete that my car definitely doesn't have the same noise as his or Gary's which is positive. See what happens this Wednesday with the whine which is currently drowning out the grating noise but can definitely confirm that I will be leaving the S2000 fold as soon as the S is 'fixed'.
