Default Improved fuel economy

as many of you know the engine in my car was replaced 8 months ago. i've now reached 10k miles on the new engine and have recently done my first trackday. since then i have noticed an approximate 20% improvement in fuel economy. is this just my engine or is this the norm?

incidentily, the new engine appears to be using almost zero oil. even the track day only caused the oil to drop one notch on the dipstick. i can only assume that when the engine was replaced, it was replaced with one that has the later reduced oil consumption mods.

I've been wondering what model of engine I had fitted too, haven't put many miles on it yet so it's still very tight (compared to my last which had done 38k)

I've been adding a 100ml of oil approximately every 500 miles.

You have probably just run it in properly and most importantly got the rings bedded in - hence the low oil consumption. The improved fuel consumption comes from the reduced friction losses as the engine beds in.

i must admit i did try the full throttle whenever possible run in method without using vtec to bed the rings properly. if the engine wasn't bedded in properly before the track day, it certainly was after!
