Default Importing from Channel Islands

I live in Jersey and want to sell my car. Rather than just sell it locally, I was thinking about advertising it in the UK also.

(Mods, this isn't a for sale thread, there is very little about my car on here, but if it isn't allowed, I understand)

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to get the car registered in the UK? Is it worth advertising nationwide?

Thanks

Rich

I looked at buying a Harley from Jersey a while ago, and the problem is we have to pay VAT on whatever price we pay for it which doesn't make it an attractive price to us anymore. Plus on top of that it has to be registered here and any chance of a bargain slowly starts to disappear.

Thanks for the reply, if a car is of a certain, surely it won't be VAT qualifying?

Doesn't seem to make a lot of difference, it seems customs will appraise its value.

Try advertising it in Guernsey also, I picked my S2000 up from Jersey last year and it was just the cost of the boat and £40 first registration. Gives you another 60k people to target?

Exporting off island has unfortunately always been prohibitive and most people won't want the extra hassle, unless as said above the car is ***really*** cheap.

Hi, no, it has never been registered in the UK.

I guess another question is, would people travel to Jersey for the right car? I know it wouldn't phase me, but I know I probably would have to travel to the UK to pick up a car I really wanted!

I looked into buying a car from Guernsey and 10% duty on top of 20% VAT needs paying so can work out quite expensive once all done.

I live in Guernsey and certainly might be interested in popping over to buy another S2K.

Please message me the details of what you've got.

Thanks
