SQ, if i could play the factory set up at full whack with no sound distortation that would be ample volume for me!
Personally I wouldn't spend too much money looking for SQ in the S, it is just too noisy a car! Spend a reasonable amount of money to get a reasonable sound . Anymore is just lost in the wind!
Also, dynamating (or better product) the doors makes a massive difference especially to the mid-bass.

Wish i had not just sold my pioneer dex-p99r head unit on ebay now! I do agree that the head unit needs changing as well. Any reasons why alpine is the make of choice here? everyone always says alpine is the way forward!

I made a set of mdf spacers to fit my Alpine SPR-17LS all amped up of course. I have no complaints with the sound, can hear it with the roof up or down at all speeds upto and around the legal limit . Also have an Alpine SWR-1222D ready to go in this weekend in custom made enclosure (see ICE FAQ) and a spanking new Alpine MRP-M850 mono block to drive it.
Running an CDA-9853R head unit with the IPOD adapter. Decent setup in my opinion. Can't wait too get that sub in this weekend to give some low down grunt to the system, especially on the motorways.
Hear on good authority that the new range of Alpine R Type speakers (SPR-17S and SPR-13S) the latter of which should probably fit without need for spacer are top notch. Don't know how they compare to the X Types or focals though which are both bloody good speakers.
Also, are you after SPL or SQ?

The SPR-13S probably dont fit since the fitment is for 17/17.5 cm speakers. Also I suspect the SPR-17S are too deep without some form of adapter!

Alpine is popular on here because there are several proven dash interface for it! I was one of the first to come out with it's own S dash interface (KCE865B) so has been around longer than most others. Kenwood, Sony and Blaupunkt have all been popular as well.
I would suggest any head unit that you are happy with that uses the Modifry interface it is a by far the best!

You can also order an adapter from modifry, an american member of this board, which will work with most makes of HU see here http://www.modifry.com/products/dci/index.htm
Whilst you're ordering, also order a glove box organiser, the best mod for the S2000 bar none.

The Polyglass 165CV1s are a co-ax with a (semi) directional tweeter. I'm never going to get around to fitting components so they're the best compromise. They're also very sensitive kicking out 93db at 1W/1M so should be plenty loud with a 45W RMS HU amp in the Alpine. I hope!
