Default ICE experts please help me!

Had a mare today attemtpting to fit a headunit on my 2004 S. Anyway, finally got it going and attempted to get the mute button working....it seems I connected it wrong and blew a fuse as the stereo won't work now!

Anyway, the factory single din unit is bigger (on the face where the buttons are) than the Clarion Ive bought and looks like it may need some kind of surround otherwise I'll be left with gaps when I put the dash panel back on.

Went to Halfords today who couldnt help so what do I do? I thought it was simply a case of old unit out new unit in?

Didnt realise the stock unit has a much bigger face than standard headunits?

It shouldn't be smaller, there should probably be a surround that comes with the clarion unit.

Here are some pics to show you what I mean:

As you can see with the original above it fits flush with no gaps. Below is my headunit - massive gaps:

and below here is a surround - its one I just bought to see if the standard surround would fit - mine didnt come with one. As you can see it still doesnt fit.

Any suggestions anyone?

Is that middle pic when it is IN the car?

If not, try placing it in, as it may look OK when actually fitted?

There should be a thin surround that goes in between the fasia and the head unit, they usually just clip in

that pic is of it on my knee.

As for the surround - you mean that one that should come with the headunit? - The extra one I bought is still too small as you can see in the last pic.

As the third pic down shows though even some surrounds don't fit in.

Surely its not a case of 'get lucky' with the proportions of your surround?

If my third pic is a surround for a single din headunit and even that doesnt fit in what are you supposed to do?

Anyone installed a radio on a 2004 car?
