Default I wouldn't say I was stupid

this should go in the tech faq...........

removing refitting the door mirrors is (can be) a pain - identical either side btw

door card removal is simple, as is the electrical connection

the mirror is then held on with three studs and bolts

the studs are part of the mirror assembly, which pass through three holes in the door and are then bolted up from the inside

now two of these are easily accessed with a 10mm socket on a straight extension

but the third stud and nut, which is to the rear of the car, is blocked by the window frame

you can get it off, but only by using universal joints and extensions on your socket and there is a very real risk of dropping the nut into the recesses of the door bottom. refitting though, is an absolute nightmare, even with soft delicate hands like mine

I had struggled for over an hour to refit my mirrors - just with this problem stud and nut

On the point of giving up or breaking something, I decided to try something else, which was to fit the replacement speakers

Guess what? With the speaker out you can reach up and put the nut on with your bleedin fingers! You can also get a small ratchet inside the door via that route and nip everything up tight. Job done in under five minutes.

So bear this thread in mind - it will drive you crazy trying to do it 'my way'

or the thicko route as it shall henceforth be known

for admitting to this and hopefully saving loads of others the same grief.
And yes - it should go in the Tech FAQ

I found that out whilst once straightening a dented door, for practice. But I'd forgotten.

Actually, I hate doing anything that involves doors. You can NEVER get to the bit you want, there's always the risk of rattles or broken clips and I always end up covered in farking mastic.

Oh, well.

My life's like that. Took me five months to find an Accord mirror switch, so I could nick the PCB to repair the heated mirrors. The amount of non-delivered 'Lude switches, non-replies on Ebay messages, etc, etc.
