Default Humming sound from rear of car

I’m conscious of a bit of a low humming sound (not buzzing) coming from the back of the car when I’m reversing or moving forward slowly from a standstill (I usually hear it more in reverse). It lasts for just a few seconds. I don’t remember if my last one did the same but that was about seven years ago.

As the Honda used car warranty is up in a few months (which I’ll extend), I thought I’d just check to see if this was normal or anything I should get checked over. It’s a 56 plate with 24k on the clock.

Any thoughts? Diff? Exhaust note?

Sounds like its just a bit of gearbox noise or maybe the diff. I doubt it's anything to worry about but it's hard to tell without a sound or video clip

You sure it's not stones vibrating in the rear bumper?

No, it's not a rattling, clicking or buzzing noise, it's a hum (some might say drone). It'll be a couple of weeks before I'm back home again. I'll try to record it then.

I'd say you're right with drone - resonance from the exhaust or something.

Petrol tank hums fir a second or two when half full when you've been out for a while and switch the ignition off.

At less than 1/2 full. Sounds like a hive/mooing.

You win!
