ATR traded in and then borrowed the remainder. So I guess I own half the car, or there abouts.

In terms of seeking a discount, cash is the worst way to buy a car. Dealers hate cash, they hardly make any money from the deal. New cars only have a tiny profit margin, 6% in the S. If you take finance from one of their finance houses, they will get a huge rebate / kick back and have far more room to provide a decent discount.

The final advantage of dealer finance is that if you lose your house etc, they cannot take you car, as its not yours! You also of the opportunity to VT the agreement at the halfway stage of the finance term, give the car back pay nothing and owe nothing.
