how strong is the door mirror bolt?
Just wondering how the mirror is bolted to the door. Some time ago someone leant on my mirror and has pushed the door skin in everso slightly. Therefore if you look from right angle you will see the door pannel slightly concaves around where the mirror is mounted. I think it will easily pop out, just not sure whether the mirror is mounted tough enough for it to be a tug job rather than a door panel off and a push job..

the mirror unit is attached via 3 studs and nuts.. so quite secure and tight -
to remove the whole unit is relatively easy if you find the right procedure... there is one posted on this site for changing the mirrors.. but basically you put your hand up into the door where the speaker is..and remove the nuts after disconnecting the cable, a bit tricky but possible. Doing the nuts back up is a bit harder

Very topical for me as I have exactly the same problem. When those wits carved something on my boot, they also bent my driver's door mirror downwards, creating a ding under the mirror support. The dealer tried to straighten the mirror but said he was frightened to bend it any further in case it broke (it still works), but there is still a gap at the top between the mirror mount and the door panel.
It's going in on Monday for them to have another go at straightening it, and for them to cure a rattle in the door (something metal is rattling against the window when its down). I've told them to try harder this time, and if they break it, they break it. Problem is that when driving, I'm constantly reminded of how out of line it is ...
You can't really see the ding below the mount in this pic, but you can probably just see how much the inside face of the mirror housing is off the vertical ...

Mmmm.. well the car is in for a bumper removal in a couple of weeks, might add the door to the list, could be a quick job and they can take responsibility for breakages

Update ...
Got the car back and they did an excellent job straightening the mirror. Nothing broke and it's now looking as it should.
Oh, and as I mentioned in another thread, they didn't fix the rattle ...
