It is traditional to open the drains & let the coolant out before starting the job!

Nick - I let the coolant drain for quite a while but you always get a bit left sitting in the thermostat housing. It was an absolutely awful experience - as soon as I pulled the thermostat housing off, a massive gush of coolant hit my neck and then all down my top. And yes, it does smell and taste awful.

That's a good one but there's also an excellent write up by xviper in "technical" - FAQs. including all the torue settings.
