As for the 'mouldy', well that all depends on whether the plastic has been looked after. I can think of better things to spend £800 on rather than replacing a perfectly good roof!

I replaced my 9.5 year old hood with one last year...it looks ten times better than the old one...plastic screens look a bit crummy to me.
Unless you spend alot of time looking backwards, rather than using your mirrors...it doesn't matter that the window is smaller. Your rear view mirror cannot view all of the opening that the plastic screen encompasses
A glass window usually has a heater element too (not that I have got off my arse to connect it yet
)

Don't get me wrong, when the plastic eventually goes I'll be getting the roof replaced. I just don't see the point of replacing it while it's still in v.v good condition (especially seeing how I'm planning to get the geo done when I lower it).

Im on the plastic rear screen and would stick with it if it was in good nick.
I do however think the glass rear screen and mohair roof looks a lot better and a messy rear screen brings the whole look of my car now.
I have decided to change mine now after a theft attempt cut open the rear screen and chopped up some of the roof.

Mine was in good condition until I decided to lower the roof on a cold but sunny day - crack!
The crack is about 2 inches long, so what to do? buy a new roof for £££'s, patch the thing or leave it as is.
I decided to spend less than the cost of a new roof on a hardtop. No leaks, less cabin noise and an overall better looking S IMO.
The soft top is retracted for now while I think of a viable solution to mend/replace the plastic.
