Tax is a very complicated issues as you all know but my issues with the whole regime is the hidden nature of these. We have fuel duty & tax. VAT is then calculated not only on the fuel costs but also the duty and tax. Double taxation is horrible. I am not naive about the role which taxation plays in the economy but I am tired of paying and getting nothing in return.

We pay VAT, income tax, NI, Council Tax, road tax, insurance premium tax, pension funds taxes etc. Per my last calculations I am paying somewhere in the region of 77p for every

I have a company Vectra that runs on LPG at 38p litre, its always a big shock when I fill up the S2000 at 83p a litre.

Certainly takes the shine off having such a superb car (the S2000 that is)

I think all governments take the p*ss because we dont stand up for ourselves as much as we should, unlike the French and Italians for example.

Bring on the protests I say.

MT was right though - if the fuel duty doesn't come from petrol, the tax will have to come from somewhere else if we want to maintain spending on healthcare, education, charging around in the desert etc.

Although not a Green, I'd rather burn less fossil fuel where possible (unlike in the States) - higher tax on fuel achieves this, with correspondingly lower taxation elsewhere.
