Default How to guide...

Hi all,

My S had a really misty / dirty / spotted back window.

After reading on here about getting cleaners from BMW dealers and Halfords etc. and having no luck finding any, I set out to ckean the rear window.

Required tools,

1 - Stanley bladed paint scraper
2 - Window cleaner
3 - Kitchen roll
4 - Sponge with scourer on
5 - Clean cloth.

1. First soak window with cleaner, let soak in and wipe off with kitchen roll.

2. Get blade (ensure it is flat on the glass to avoid scratching surface) and start to scrape off all of the marks / spots, take care not to damage any seals or cut the roof. This takes time so be patient.

3. Once all of the marks are scraped off take scourer and gently rub off excess dirt.

4. Repeat step 1.

5. If you are sad like me go in the car and check rear window from inside to see if you missed any, I had so went over localised areas with blade.

6. Repeat step 1

7. Shine window with clean cloth.

Whole process should take about 20 minutes.

I couln't beleive the difference, it was like brand new. Don't know why I left it so long.

Steve.

I have a tash of sorts, and I work with a German company of Engineers.
Cool, nearly there!

Seriously I think the clay bars do such a good job with stripping tar and resin sports from paint, they would be good on glass too.

Are we talking about plastic windows here?
I just use glass polish after a clean using warm water with a splash of vinegar dried off with newspaper, although I have a glass rear window.
