I've tried and tried to follow the 4 little pictures on the roof cover to put over it when its in the down position but just cant figure out how it is meant to stretch over the roof in order to clip it down as shown in the diagram?

Anything I am meant to do first? (No one say, "try putting the roof down first!")

It's fairly simple.

Plonk it on top of the roof.

Plug the poppers in

I always find its easiest to to the two side poppers first so that you haven't got bits of the cover flailing around on to bodywork.
Then the other two poppers, and finally tuck the back in. It takes a while to get used to doing it, but you will master it with practice.

I've always found that plugging the two poppers just behind the folded roof first, then the two by the doors, and finally force those metal plates under the rear seal works best for me

I always unfold mine first, then put it on doing the outside poppers , then the rear ones.

Simple - I 'popped' mine under the spare bed, and almost 5 years on it's still there - works a treat. I think it's still in it's original packaging.
