Hi,

I've just recently bought a 99 T S2000 (Jap import), how can I find out whether it has an alarm?
You could try stealing it.

yes my black minibos locks & unlocks the car. I suspect however that I don't have an alarm for the simple reason that I dont see an alarm box anywhere. The only thing that is confusing me is that when I lock the car a small small red light flashes near the steering wheel to the right.

No boot release with my 99 JDM.

Have you got the sensors on the dashboard? Is there a red flashing LED? If you unlock it then leave it for a minute does it immobilise and fail to start?

Lock the car up with the fob. Wait until you see the flashing light. Now using only the key unlock the boot. What happens?

I think the flashing red LED on mine is for the immobiliser, not the alarm as it flashes when the car isn't alarmed.

I *think* (this might be wrong) that the SVA requires an immobiliser? So maybe that's all you have. But then importers generally offer at least an option of a Cat 1 alarm which most people would take.

What if someone tries to nick it tonight but you don't know what the alarm sounds like? You hear one but just ignore it thinking it can't be yours

Er, look for an alarm box in the engine bay. Or sit in it and close the car up and wave your arms around a bit

MB,

I am not sure what alarm I have (my S is from a UK dealer), but the immobilizer works and so does the alarm - execept for the sit inside and wave your hand bit. I suspect I don't have the ultrasonics - anyway to confirm this other than a failed test it?

I had the same problem when I bought my car (it was an early UK car, and they didn't fit alarms as standard until 6 months after the S2K officially came to the UK), the chances are you just have an immobiliser and no alarm.

Quickest way to tell by far is to open the bonnet and look to the LHS (brake booster side). If you see a black cube (the siren), you've got an alarm, if you haven't... then you haven't got an alarm!

I suspect you haven't.

With a picture... the lower red circle is where my alarm WAS mounted - the HKS needed the space! The upper red circle is where it nows sits....
