Do we really think this chassis could safely cope with much more power? IMO without a redesign the way to improve the S2k is to strip it out to improve bhp/ton
Once you start giving any car 250bhp+ its gonna be a handful. Just ask the guys off here who have just bought TVR's about a handful... The S is positively tame compared with these feckers..

They shoul make a lightwaright type-r, not go for more power. A remite of 1000kg max. lighter alu panels, carbon inserts rather than leather etc. whatever works and is light anyway.

that would make a car approaching 250bhp per tonne. To go the 'other' way with the horses, you'd need firmly over 300bhp and that's assuming that there's no extra weight penatly for that power. The lighter car will be faster and better round the twisites/track too.

Could easily shed a lot of weight I reckon.

Ditch:
Stock exhaust, replace with Titanium effort
Manifold - as above
Rusty wheels, replace with lighweight racing rims.
ABS
PAS
Aircon
Heavy seats, replace with lightweight buckets
Carpet, replace with alloy like VX220
Leccy roof,
Spare wheel, replace with foam

That is aside of what they can do with the body panels - CF bonnet, door cards etc etc

Or I guess you could put the S2k engine in an Elise

The problem is you couldn't get it much lighter. The thing that makes it so heavy is the x-bone chassis. They'd need to re-engineer that or switch to pretty expensive materials to lower the weight. And carbon body panels would do little to lower the weight either, given that some (like the bonnet and boot) are ultra light already.

We need red cloth seats, white bodywork and 280bhp. Any weight loss would be welcome, but not necessarily a pre-requisite.

I agree weight loss would be a more attractive option for me.

How about if they ditch the softtop and make a coupe with 100kg less weight or so

Yeah more power and less weight would be great, but the back end of the S is too light anyway and you'd struggle to put down much more useful power on the road; if Honda did ramp up the horses. Traction would have to be improved some how.

Once you're rolling, is traction still a problem? Plenty RWD's would struggle to put down all their power from a standing or slow start surely - ie TVR's, Caterhams, bikes

This is hilarious.

I like these Clio 172's but I think he's a little ambitious.
Aw, c'mon give the guy a break - it's like GSi says, the fella's just enjoying the best motor he's ever had... who knows, his next step could be an S2000...!

... and, if you've had a play in one, you'll know they are a fun fwd go-kart...

...on a desserted country-lane, they are in their element and it'd take a very good S2Ker to outpace one... honest !

S2K is just in a different class of mota, is all...

No not really, getting any extra power down when exiting corners is a factor. The Tamora had loads more traction(for many resaons). Trust me the back ends very light on the S2000, why do you think the backends a bit lively on the early models, it's because it's light. It's fine for the current state of tune, but if Honda added more torque and power, something would have to be done.
