Please, please can someone help me out with this ipod link thingy?!

It's really annoying seeing that it seems to work for everyone else but me! I presume I'm doing something wrong, as it will play if I select tracks through the ipod itself, but the controls on the head unit and remote just will not control the ipod, nor will the ipod turn off and on with the radio (it just keeps on playing if you turn the radio off).

If someone could post a step by step list of instructions from connecting the ipod to getting into a playlist from the head unit then I would be eternally grateful :-)

All I did was plug in the Ipod, selected CD as the source, then ejected the CD that happened to be in the H/U, after that the Ipod "worked" fine.

Not sure what else to suggest. Assume you bought it from e-bay. The e-bay chap was very helpful when I e-mailed him a question before buying to confirm it would work on a 2005 OEM H/U. Have you tried him?

Do you have the xcar link for a Honda? - the black gift box that I got has a red arrow next to the Honda entry on one side, and a red arrow next to "AL2007I (for iPOD)" on the other side.

Also the 2005 OEM H/U in mine is a panasonic according to the sticker on the base of mine when I removed it.

Have you tried a different iPod just to check that is not the problem?

Have you checked the cables are plugged in correctly - not sure you could mis-plug them but?

Otherwise you may just have a faulty one?

Good luck

i will have a look tomorrow as i have been away and cant remember all the features, but im sure you use the cd/aux button to scroll through the three setting eg.... cd player -> setting 1-> setting 2 -> cd player etc.....

setting 1 being the ipod control and setting 2 being the h/u having control??

It really was as simple as plugging the connector in on the back of the stereo, pressing the aux button on the head unit, and then the ipod came on. I can use the ch button on the dash to change track, and the big button on the dash (can't remember what it is called) that selects radio frequency/cd/ipod to select what input i want to listen to.

you might have faulty one.

Many thanks for the replies. Mine certainly doesn't work in the way described in these posts -I wonder if it could be down to the radio being different in an 07 car? I'll e-mail the e-bay bloke and see what he says about it. I wish I'd just bought the Alpine 9850 now :-(

Did you ever get that fixed? Reason I ask is that I have had (temporarily) exactly the same problem you describe - no H/U or Dash control, only via the iPod it's self. Sorted the problem when I found that the "box to iPod" cable was slightly out of the "box" - just enough to "play" but obviously not enough for control. When I pushed it back home fully, all working fine.

Makes me somewhat wary of the set up, but so far OK
