I had something similar happen in an old Lancia Monte Carlo, was in the 3rd lane on the M25, making progress, when I realised that the pedal was not coming back up...
I could see traffic ahead, and was approaching the exit for the M40, so I stuck the indicator on and flew across three lanes while pushing and pulling at the pedal with my toes.
it eventually came back, and I wnet up to the first junction and came back to my original route.....new trousers required.....
