HKS Hi-Performance Silent Exhaust
Hi All,
I posted a question on the Group Buy thread, but it was rightly suggested that I'd be better off posting on the main forum.
Having put the new HKS Hi-Performance Silent exhaust on the car at the weekend, I am not 100% convinved that I am going to keep it.
* The look is ok.
* It weighs so much less than stock.
* Peformance is fine.
* Sounds above 3/4k rpm is great and not much louder than stock.
The problem is that the drone around 3/4k rpm is MUCH worse than I was expecting. In fact I think it must be worse than the non-Silent versions that people had a Bedford!
I'm worried that once the novelty wears off, this is not something I want to live with everyday. I can not go down the road without everyone turning around to see what is coming and I feel like a right Max Power Chav!
Chris has suggested that a de-cat pipe might help. Has any one got any experience of this? If so, how succesful was it with regard to reducing the drone?
Thanks in advance!
Nick

I find this weird. Mine is not massively loud. In fact its one of the quietest loud exhausts you can get
Maybe you need to run it in a bit and get it clogged up with exhaust fumes.

Jamie,
Have you got the silent version or the old one?
I suspect the silent one is quieter but suffers from more low rev drone.
The other problem is that you may be more of a naturaul chav than me!

I have the silent one like you. I can actually drive it without hearing the exhaust too much. When I put my foot down it's a different matter. You just need to know how to drive properly!!!!!

Why are you driving it at 3-4k revs? Well mine quietened down after a while but it is very rare for me to drive at that rev range plus I don't find it too much. It is only between 3200-3500 that I get any drone.

For normal driving this is fine. But around town, 3k revs happens quiet a bit.
My ears are aching, but I am hoping it's something to do with the stinking cold I've got!
So has no one gone down the de-cat route?
